Back in April 2020, the UK and the rest of the world were caught in the centre of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Lockdown was enforced nationwide, and family members were separated with no idea of when they would meet again. Life just seemed to stop, with many UK workers put on furlough, the rest worked from home and unfortunately, some people even lost their jobs.
Life was completely turned upside down as parents became teachers, and teachers became delivery drivers. We all fought together to protect each other and support our brave NHS workers.
While most enjoyed the extra time spent at home with family, some jumped at the opportunity to help in any way they could. In the following days, about 10 million people signed up to volunteer and NHS staff moved out of their homes to protect their families.
In recognition of these unsung heroes who went above and beyond the call of duty, risking their health to protect that of others, Nelson’s Distillery & School launched a campaign to reward their amazing efforts.
The Hats Off to Our Heroes: Reward a Hero Campaign asked our charitable Nelson’s Community to nominate their biggest heroes for a chance to receive an amazing reward.
The prize? A FREE Gin School Experience at one of Nelson’s four Gin & Vodka Schools across the UK.
180+ heartfelt nominations later, each deserving as the next, we decided we couldn’t make the difficult decision ourselves so we drew names out of a hat.
There are 44 names picked in total: 14 for Staffordshire, 10 for Birmingham, 10 for Manchester, and 10 for Leeds.
Every nominee deserves a treat and only wish we could offer them the full experience. So for those who missed the chance for the Gin School experience were offered a Tour, Talk & Taste session at Nelson’s Staffordshire school, instead.
More information will be sent out to nominees once we have decided on the dates. For those who are missing from the Heroes Collage, kindly send your images across.
We look forward to hosting our Heroes’ Day as soon and safely as possible.
